My Fave Room: Sonia from Life, Love & Hiccups

Welcome to the third episode of My Fave Room for 2015!

If you’re anything like me, you love nothing more than a behind the scenes look at other people’s homes.

And me being the inquisitive blogger that I am, I’ve managed to convince some of our favourite bloggers to share their favourite room with us.

In the first episode last year, we got to hang out in the very funky office of Tessa from Down that Little Lane. Our second episode saw us visiting the beautiful kitchen of Beth from BabyMac. In the third episode, we had a rather interesting tour of the laundry belonging to Mrs Woog. And our final episode for 2014 saw us spending some time in Nikki from Styling You’s ahhhmazing Lady Room.

This year’s season premiere was a very cool and funky affair as we hung out in the office-slash-bar of Jim and Christina, AKA Mr and Mrs Romance, followed by a very warm and inviting hang out in Bron from Maxabella Loves’ living room.

Today it’s time for us to call in and visit my bright and bubbly friend – and namesake – Sonia from Life, Love & Hiccups…

Which room of your house is your favourite?

Hands down my favourite room in our house is my Lady Cave. I was going to say the bedroom because helloooo bed… but when I thought about it, I’m not actually in the bedroom and awake enough to really appreciate it all that often, and so the bedroom got bumped by the lady cave.

Just for the record, I should clarify that the Lady Cave is in fact my home office and not some kind of kinky term for anything else. It’s where I spend a good chunk of my day doing everything from blogging, to running my business, photo shoots and editing.

What makes it so special?

It’s not a huge room by any definition, but it’s my space – MINE MINE MINE – and that’s probably the thing I love about it the most.

Being a female in an all male household, I don’t really get to be too girly when it comes to decorating the rest of the living areas, but in this room I can do as I choose.

The colour on the walls is Tin Cat grey and the desks and furniture and curtains are all white so the girliness comes from the fresh flowers I always have in here and the colour pops in the knick knacks I have throughout the space.

I’m a huge fan of stationery and I collects load of ‘stuff’  like cute notebooks, washi tape, notebooks, twine and did I mention cute notebooks?

My home office looks out over the pool in the backyard which is a bit of a tease when I am working in summer and the kids and the hubby are out there having fun, but for the most part it’s not a view I am going to complain about.

What’s your favourite item in the room and why?

Hmmm favourite item huh? It would have to be my little aqua colour clock from Typo {in the top right pic above}. I am totally in love with that colour. But then it could be my washi tape collection… decisions, decisions.

What are your go-to stores for decorating?

Most of the furniture in my office has been bought from Officeworks and IKEA. All the little decorative bits are generally either from Down that Little Lane, Little Paper Lane or Typo or have been given to me by friends and family over the years.

What items are on your wish list for this room?

How about a view like this?

Yeah no, it’s probably not going to happen in a hurry.

OK well if I can’t have that beach view – then I kind of fancy a shiny new desktop Mac. Whilst I converted over to a MacBook Air for a laptop, I am still on a clunky old PC desktop.

I also wouldn’t mind some more built-in shelving in my craft cupboard so I can organise all the bits and fabric etc in the manner that my OCD heart is yearning for them to be.

What 3 items or elements do you think the perfect room needs?

For me it is all about light, storage and comfort.

Lots of natural bright light, storage to stash away the clutter and comfort because… umm… just because.

If I could have a fourth thing then I would add colour!

Oh I love Sonia and her lady cave is a perfect reflection of her – bright, organised and with plenty of personality! Our place is so dark, I call it Brown Town. But when we get our butts into gear, it’s going to change into White City and it will be all about light, comfort and storage. Soon I will have enough stuff to have my own series of Hoarders. I’m a sticky beak by nature so am totes loving this series. I can’t wait to see whose house we get to check out next!

I totally agree, she’s a gem that Sonia! You’ll be amazed at the difference a lick of white paint can make. Make sure you post a before and after!

Hi Sonia, loved this piece on the other talented Sonia. Her office is so colourful. I love both of your IG galleries and blogs. 2 Sonia’s are a winner !

Oh lord that space is my dream. I have my own craft room/ study but it is an absolute shambles. If a stranger walked in, they would assume it was our “shit room” – you know the room you dump all your shit when people are coming over? Every day I walk in, I think about how badly I want to rearrange the whole thing and organise everything beautifully but there’s just SO MUCH STUFF.

One day I will turn it into a beautiful space that I can escape to and feel inspired. One day….

    • Sonia says

The shit room – I know EXACTLY what you mean! That’s the current state of our front room, which I want to turn into my very own home office. So much shit…

  6. says

    LOVE all the colour.
Please share where you found the white wire basket – in the pic next to the yellow bucket. Have been searching for one just like it for a tricky space

This beautiful soul has a way to make me laugh, cry & now swoon!
How gorgeous is that space a true reflection of her beauty & inspiration. No wonder she can craft such lovely words with a space as divine as this.
    Great post ladies. xx

This has given me office inspiration – mine is an absolute shambles, Hubby & I both use it for work, then there’s just crap everywhere that doesn’t have a home anywhere else in the house, which I guess means it shouldn’t even be in the house! Lightbulb moment! Thanks Sonia, I love these sneaky peeks into these houses x

I love your lady cave Sonia! We have a study which comes off our bedroom but I want to do more with it, I’m just not feeling it at the moment. I think i need more storage (for things other than books – we have two walls of floor to ceiling bookshelves in there already!). I think when I’m on maternity leave I’ll start slowly transforming it into my space!

    • says

I dont think you can ever have tooo much storage hun. How exciting to foof it all up whilst your on maternity leave. Claim it as your own pace lovely, you deserve it and besides you can always call squatters rights haha xx

Hello, Totally love and want a Lady Cave just like this. I also live in a household with all males (including Rupert the Cat) so it would be nice to have my own space. I have a spot which is lovely during the day – but doubles as the TV room at night…This needs to change and SOON. Love white/grey/neutrals – keeps me calm; I get colour from all the gorgeous stationary…

What Kim @landofzonkt said. Bright and beautiful and friendly and welcoming, just like Sonia. Loving this series! Now, if we could only pool all our money and have Sonia fly in and out of our own homes, have her wave her magic wand of girly stuff decoration, hug and squeeze her tight and then reluctantly say goodbye so she can fly away to the next person standing in line 😉 Xxx

  12. says

Son, I would feel more than at home in your gorgeous space! I have the exact same Typo calendar hanging above my desk, and all your bits and pieces are so lovely.
