Mini Break, Major Recharge

This past weekend we did one of my most favourite things to do – we had a little local getaway with friends.

Sometimes you don’t need to leave your country or even your state, you just need to drive an hour away and set up house someplace else for a few days. And that’s exactly what we did. With some very good friends of ours, we hired a holiday house in Aldinga Beach and had 3 days of food, wine and relaxation.

We hit up McLaren Vale, a fantastic wine region about an hour south of Adelaide and visited some great wineries – Fox Creek, Shottesbrooke, Samuel’s Gorge and Oxenberry – and had a rather awesome lunch at The Currant Shed (HIGHLY recommended. The food was amazing, wine exquisite and service impeccable).

Amalfi came along too (his very first holiday in his 14 weeks of life) and had an absolute blast. A whole new house to explore, backyard to run around in and friends to play with. What more could a puppy ask for?! Well there was more – his very first visit to the beach. He wasn’t too sure about the ocean but loved the seaweed, grabbing some in his mouth and trying to make a run for it at every opportunity (no easy task when you’re on a lead).

The final night, we cranked our favourite tunes, talked for hours, drank the delish wine we had bought and eventually one by one, we hit the hay.

And so we packed up and cleaned up the house on Sunday and began the drive home, feeling completely refreshed with a completely worn out puppy.

Exactly what we needed – a mini break for a major recharge.

How do you like to recharge? Where are your favourite local getaway spots?
