My Fave Room: Em from Bohemian Traders

You just have to whisper the words “Bohemian Traders” and women everywhere get weak at the knees.

Discovering a gap in the market for good quality, wash and wear modern bohemian clothing for women of all sizes, Emily Berlach {or Em, as she simply likes to be called} decided to start the Bohemian Traders label in November 2013.

By the middle of 2014 the business had outgrown its “side project” status and Em was forced to consider its future. Deciding that it was worth a full time effort, Em recruited from the pool of resources closest to her, inviting her husband Dave to officially join the Bohemian Traders team. Continuing to grow rapidly and exceeding the capacity of their home office and studio, the business relocated into a warehouse unit in Erina, NSW in early 2015 and also employed a Warehouse Manager.

“When we first started Bohemian Traders we were packing about 10 orders per week,” Em explains, “now it’s over 2,000 a month.”

Running a fast paced fashion business is no doubt exhausting and exhilarating, so I was super keen to ask Em to share with us her haven – her home.

Which room of your house is your favourite?

We’ve just finished an extension at our place and I’d have to say that our new living room is my current favourite space. It’s got louvered windows, French doors and sky lights – all about sunshine and sea breezes!

What makes it so special?

The living room generally the space that we gather. French doors open onto the deck which flows into the master bedroom so between these 3 spaces, you can pretty much count all 5 of us at any one time.

What’s your favourite item in the room and why?

Mmm, a very tough choice. I’d say the Laura Jones artwork or my giant Beni Orian rug. Both totally bespoke treasures that will hopefully last a lifetime or more.

What are your go-to stores for decorating?

Oh, I’m all flustered at the thought! As a person who runs an online business, I’m totally across online shopping… or is it simply that I’m a woman with a computer? Either way, I love shopping for homewares online and have a few favourite haunts…

What items are on your wish list for this room?

A bone inlay side table and an amazing coffee table that I’m yet to discover… any suggestions?

What 3 items or elements do you think the perfect room needs?

3 kids? Mmm, not too sure other than that. I wish I had a better handle on interior décor!

Bonus question: what’s next for Bohemian Traders?

We are extremely excited about this year. We will be launching our own line of premium denim for the Autumn/Winter season along with releasing a bespoke line of limited edition jewellery and accessories. Further to this, we will bring a collection of unisex children’s clothing to our customers.
