My Top 5 Mascara Recommendations

My name’s Sonia and I’m a mascara-holic.

I’ve been obsessed with mascara for as long as I’ve been using makeup.

Personally, I think a great mascara opens up your eyes and creates a simple yet beautiful makeup look without the need for eyeliner or eyeshadow.

I’ve previously shared my mascara tricks of the trade on the blog (you can read them here), which is the routine I follow each and every day when applying my favourite cosmetic product.

Today I thought I’d share my top 5 mascara recommendations.

These are the ones I buy again and again and I’ll share a little bit about why I love them so much.

Top 5 Mascara Recommendations

My top 5 mascara recommendations

1. NARS ‘Audacious’ from Mecca Cosmetica ($39)
Confession – this is a very new addition to my mascara collection, but it was instant love. It has quite a large brush, which is perfect for upper lashes and coats them beautifully. What I really like is that the product itself is completely buildable, without being thick or clumpy. When I curl my lashes and then apply this mascara, it seriously looks like I’ve had eyelash extensions (but without the expensive price tag) – win!

2. L’Oréal Paris Volume Million Lashes So Couture from Priceline ($27.95)
This was a surprise little number, truth be told. I received one in a L’Oréal gift bag a couple of years ago. It took me a little while to get around to trying it, but once I did, I flipping well loved it and have been buying it ever since! It’s a great product for building volume, AKA thick black lashes. A little bit goes a long way, so exercise restraint when applying it as too many layers can make your lashes look a bit clumpy.

3. Benefit They’re Real! Mascara from Myer ($42)
This is one of those beauty products that actually lives up to the hype! It creates volume as well as length and the unique shaped brush seems to reach every single lash – even the tricky ones in the corners. While it’s not exactly cheap, it is great quality and is a fabulous product to have in your cosmetic collection, particularly for special occasions if you didn’t want to wear it every day.

4. L’Oréal Paris False Lash Butterfly Wings Mascara from Priceline ($25.95)
This is a great dual-purpose mascara. What I mean by that is the longer bristles on one side of the brush are perfect for upper lashes, while the shorter bristles on the underside of the brush are great for coating lower lashes. The almost semi-circle shape of the brush also helps to really fan out your lashes, making them look big, bold and beautiful.

5. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara from Priceline ($12.95)
There’s a reason you will find this mascara on set in professional makeup artists’ kits – it’s awesome! An iconic product that has stood the test of time, it creates a full lash look without clumping. It also lasts incredibly well and is contact lens safe and hypoallergenic. An affordable classic every woman should own.

Benefit also do a lash primer! I don’t usually go in for “extra makeup work” but this is an amazing product as makes the mascara used after the primer work even better. I’ve also discovered a great mascara in Bare Minerals. Highly recommend it for an everyday mascara. Thx for the post Sonia!

I’ve got a couple in rotation at the moment, a Silk Oil of Morocco one that I won in a gift pack, Essence Lash Princess that offers amazing blackness and volume for the low low price of $5 and a Maybelline Lash Drama (?) or something like that. Oh also a blue NYX one for when I feel like wearing blue mascara.
